Community Volunteer Carnival

 

Once again, our members volunteered - this time in September at the Beacon Community Services' Volunteer Recruitment Carnival: our valued volunteers volunteering their time to recruit much-needed volunteers!

We set up once again, at the annual Saanich Fair, on the Labour Day weekend.

 

True to the theme of the 2023 Fair, our volunteers put together a great display of jam-making in days gone by.

90th Anniversary

 

In July, we celebrated the 90th Anniversary of the Log Cabin Museum, by throwing a party for the community!

The Sikhs of Tod Inlet

In April, in honour of Sikh Heritage Month, this Talk & Tea screened the film, “Searching for the Sikhs of Tod Inlet” by David R Gray.

Starting in 1906 with the arrival of 40 Sikh men to work at the cement mill in Tod Inlet, this documentary included rare archival film and interviews with descendants of the workers

Victoria's Chinatown - Then & Now

 

We were very pleased to have Charlayne Thornton-Joe, Visitor Experience & Facilities Coordinator, for the Chinese Canadian Museum in Fan Tan Alley, present at the March Talk & Tea.

Victoria's Chinatown is the oldest in Canada, and the second oldest in North America. See more on the Chinese Canadian Museum here.

2023 Season Opening

 

We celebrated the opening of the Log Cabin Museum for the season, by inviting the public to celebrate with us during #BCHeritageWeek

John Dean Park / LÁU,WELṈEW̱

 

Our February Talk & Tea featured local author & John Dean Park steward, Jarrett Teague.

 

He presented on the Indigenous legends and storied past of the park / LÁU,WELṈEW̱. 

Saanichton Community Christmas

 

In December, we joined with the Saanichton Village Association for the annual celebration in the Village!

"Christmas in the Village" has become a happy family tradition over the years, with card-making, cookie-decorating, hot chocolate around the fire, and more!

History With A Sense Of Humour

 

In November, a local legend himself, Gary Cunningham, presented at that month's Talk & Tea.

 

He regaled us with tales of the early days in the Elk Lake and Royal Oak areas.

Fashioning A Reign

 

Donna Otto, hostess at the Government House Costume Museum, treated us to a royal fashion presentation for ​early November's Talk & Tea.
